Preview of NVIDIA's GTC Conference

• NVIDIA has given developers a preview of the Blackwell GPUs, which are positioned as the market's next premier AI technology, potentially surpassing the popularity of the H100 GPU.

• Details about Blackwell GPUs are still under wraps, but there are rumors they might use a chiplet or single-piece design, potentially moving to a multi-package system in the future."

• In addition to hardware, NVIDIA plans to reveal generational upgrades to its CUDA platform. This is critical for improving AI performance across NVIDIA's accelerators to better position the NVIDIA ecosystem against competition.

Io.net is building the Internet of GPUs

Big Takeaway: io.net is a cutting-edge decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) that is revolutionizing access to distributed GPU clusters for AI and ML at a fraction of the cost of centralized services such as AWS or Google Cloud.

• By utilizing decentralization, IO has added over 90,000 GPUs and CPUs to their network since November 2023. For comparison, OpenAI used 300,000 CPUs and 10,000 GPUs to train their GPT-3 model.

• This enables huge AI organizations and developers to access cutting-edge processing power at a fraction of the cost. Accessing GPUs via AWS can take weeks, whereas IO takes 90 seconds because of their decentralized network.

• IO recently raised $30 million in their Series A round to build the largest decentralized GPU network with a total valuation of $1 billion.

• The IO coin serves as the network's AI compute currency with two main goals: convenient cluster payments for startups and developers and connecting the IO network. With rewards for supplying your GPU or CPU.

SpaceX is building network of spy satellites

SpaceX is building a classified network of hundreds of spy satellites for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) under a $1.8 billion deal signed in 2021. SpaceX's Starshield business unit is developing a low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation to detect and share ground targets to offer persistent, global imaging intelligence to the U.S. government and military.

Microsoft plant is draining tiny Arizona town of its water

Microsoft's massive new AI data center in Goodyear, Arizona, is straining the town's water supply. Once operational, the 279-acre facility, designed for Microsoft and the heavily Microsoft-funded OpenAI, will use 56 million gallons of water every year, enough for 670 families.

Reddit faces FTC probe over AI data

Elon Musk's AI startup xAI, which created the Grok chatbot, is currently paying the highest salaries to its AI developers, even higher than OpenAI, the most valuable AI company. Reddit and Google just signed a $60 million-a-year deal that lets Google use Reddit's user data for AI training. This raises worries about using user data for AI development.
