How AI is Impacting the World
Customize any image in seconds with Midjourney’s AI editor
Midjourney, the popular AI image generation platform, just launched a new AI-powered image editor, adding another layer of creativity for users. With this new feature, you can now upload any image and edit it by altering sections, retexturing it, or even transforming it into a completely different style—like turning a hand-drawn doodle into a polished artwork or a photograph into an anime scene. This is a step beyond their existing image generation tool, which used reference images but didn’t allow actual alterations to them.
The editor is currently only available to long-time users who meet certain criteria, such as having generated over 10,000 images or being annual subscribers. Those with access can experiment with tools like "Erase" and "Move/Resize," which make it easy to modify portions of the image and expand or change the layout, all driven by text prompts. There’s also a “Retexture” feature, which preserves the original structure of an image while changing its surface, like turning a normal scene into a cyberpunk landscape.
With AI’s role in creativity continuing to grow, this release opens new doors for users to bring their imaginations to life. As AI blends more deeply into creative fields, it's worth considering how this will reshape human artistry, careers in digital design, and our understanding of intellectual property in the future.
