How AI is Impacting the World

Microsoft’s Ignite conference unveils Copilot Agents

Microsoft unveiled Copilot Actions at its Ignite conference, a new feature for Microsoft 365 Copilot that automates repetitive tasks. This AI-powered tool, currently in private preview, streamlines tasks like summarizing meeting action points, generating reports, or preparing for meetings. Think of it as a set-it-and-forget-it macro powered by fill-in-the-blank prompts. Microsoft is also enhancing Copilot functionality in several Office apps. For example, PowerPoint will soon translate presentations into 40 languages and use branded templates to draft presentations more effectively, while Excel will suggest templates with pre-filled headers, formulas, and visuals for faster spreadsheet creation.

In Outlook, Copilot will gain smarter scheduling tools to optimize meeting times and create agendas. These updates will roll out by the end of the month. Microsoft is also introducing AI agents in SharePoint, designed to summarize documents, answer questions about SharePoint data, and generate site-specific AI assistants. Businesses can even create custom agents to address unique SharePoint use cases, building on Microsoft's broader push to embed AI into sales, service, and finance workflows.

This evolution of AI in everyday tools shows Microsoft’s focus on making professional workflows more efficient and personalized. It also underscores how AI continues to influence productivity tools, suggesting a growing shift toward automation as a cornerstone of modern work.
