🚨 Breaking AI News

According to DeepMind’s CEO, Google’s next algorithm, codenamed Gemini, will surpass ChatGPT. That’s a bold statement. The project is leveraging techniques used in their previous AI model, AlphaGo. An AI model famous for defeating a world champion in “Go” in 2016.

Gemini is similar to GPT-4 (ChatGPT’s LLM), but it's currently under development with an estimated cost of over $100 million.

DeepMind plans to use similar reinforcement learning and tree search methods used for Alpha Go, and so far they are having success. Participate in the poll below

Databricks, the renowned data analytics platform that simplifies big data processing for enterprises, acquires MosaicML, an open source platform to train and deploy AI models.

For a small 1.3 billion dollar price tag, Databricks now has more ammo for their battle for LLM dominance. The battle between Open AI, Deepmind, Databricks, and Snowflake is even fiercer now to decide who is going to have long term dominance over the LLM layer. Nvidia already dominates the hardware layer.

This acquisition will further entice companies to invest in training LLMs, as Databricks is now a one-stop shop for enterprises.

Daily Definition

LLM Layer

In the context of AI, it generally refers to the layer of a neural network tasked with understanding and processing human language. This language comprehension ability is pivotal in Natural Language Processing (NLP), a field of AI that focuses on interaction between computers and humans through language.

The LLM layer is a type of recurrent layer, meaning it has 'memory' and can use information from previous inputs to inform current or future outputs. This feature is particularly beneficial when dealing with language because understanding a sentence often depends on the context provided by previous sentences.

An example of an LLM layer in action would be in a chatbot. When you ask a chatbot a question, it's the LLM layer that processes your words, understands what you're asking, and generates a relevant response. LLM layers are only as good as the data they've been trained on. Which is why there is a battle for LLM layer supremacy.
