Researchers have successfully developed a non-invasive AI decoder that is capable of translating brain activity into a continuous stream of text. In plain English, AI just got the ability to read minds.

Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), the decoder was able to reconstruct the speech of volunteers when they listened to a podcast.

The volunteers were in a scanner for 16 hours while the AI was able to depict their thoughts with extraordinary accuracy.

This breakthrough could lead to new methods of treatment to restore speech in patients who suffer from strokes or motor disease.

“We were kind of shocked that it works as well as it does. I’ve been working on this for 15 years… so it was shocking and exciting when it finally did work.”

On Tuesday, they released their most recent update, v5.1. The update offers improved fluidity, improved accuracy in response to prompts, improved image quality, and RAW mode.

RAW mode can be toggled on or off to the user’s preference, and while RAW is toggled on, it offers less strict parameters when generating images.

As a Midjourney user myself, this update has given great results.

Chat GPT has been dominating Bing in the race for the most popular GPT model. Bing is looking to change that with their most recent update, which includes Bing chat plugins, multimodal answers, chat history, and, most importantly, no more waitlist.

Bing utilizes the GPT-4 model (the latest version) and is available for free, whereas accessing GPT-4 on ChatGPT demands a $20 subscription to ChatGPT Plus.

Bing will now be able to respond in non-text formats like charts and graphs. They are also working on visual search chat.

The list of news stories going against AI’s rapid development in 2023 keeps getting longer. Vice President Harris is set to meet with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI; Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic; Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO of Microsoft; and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet.

The goal of this meeting is to establish a framework for responsible, ethical, and safe innovations. This comes after ‘The Godfather of AI’ denounces AI and the petition to halt AI for six months. What will be next?

This is part of the Biden administration's efforts to engage with AI issues and follows the recent release of a blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights aimed at mitigating the harms of automated systems.
