Google is following in Chat GPT's footsteps, as today they announced an AI-powered search generative experience (SGE) that provides AI-generated answers above search result listings.

This is huge. It will forever change the way we all search on Google and how Google ranks SEO. The new search displays answers at the very top of the page, citing websites used to generate the answers. It is currently only available through a waitlist that you can join here: (link)

The generative AI is powered by multiple LLMs, including the new PaLM-2 model announced today by Google, more on that in the next headline. Google's approach to generative AI in search focuses on their ecosystem's information needs, information quality, and safety constraints.

Do you think this will improve search or just add extra clutter? You can check out their demo here: (link)

Large Language Models, or LLM for short, drive the AI that we know today. They are extremely large datasets that essentially teach the AI everything it knows. Today, Google announced their latest LLM, PaLM-2.

PaLM-2 is Google’s newest model that was trained on 540 billion parameters 🤯PaLM-2 is equipped with improved multilingual, reasoning, and coding capabilities.

It was trained on multilingual text from over 100 languages, while demonstrating improved logic, common sense reasoning, and mathematical capabilities. PaLM 2 comes in four sizes, ranging from the lightweight “Gecko” to the largest, “Unicorn.”

Developers can now sign up to use the PaLM 2 model.

Today, Google showcased one of their prototypes that is perfect for students, Google Tailwind. It is an AI notebook trained on your documents, like Google Docs or Sheets, acting as a personalized tutor.

As a college student myself, I am definitely signing up for the waitlist. You can too, here: (link) You can select files from Google Drive to create a personalized AI model based on the information you provide.

The system can identify key topics and suggest questions, and users can query it for more details. This is going to be like having your professor in your pocket. This project is still in beta, so it will not be perfect… yet.

Google also announced that their new Pixel Fold is available for pre-order. The Google Tensor G2 chip powers it. When closed, it resembles a regular smartphone, but when opened, it reveals a 7.6-inch screen similar to the size of an iPad mini.

A feature I like about it is the ability to have multiple screens running. This helps for productivity or entertainment, and when it is unfolded, you get all of the benefits of a tablet.

Apple still runs the smartphone industry; do you think their new phone, starting at almost $2,000, will make a dent in their market share?
