🚨 Breaking AI News

Metaculus is an online platform that collects predictions on important global topics to “improve human understanding and collaboration.” The company uses these predictions to help different institutions make decisions.

Here are their three Boldest predictions:

  1. “If there is an artificial intelligence catastrophe this century, when will it happen?

    Prediction date: July 9, 2039

  2. “After a (weak) AGI is created, how many months will it be before the first superintelligent AI is created?”

Prediction: 43 Months or about 3 and half years

  3. When will AI outperform humans on argument reasoning tasks?

    Prediction: November 17, 2025

These are data-driven predictions, so take this information with a grain of salt because they are only predictions. The specificity of the predictions is impressive, and I am interested to see how accurate they are. I highly recommend you check out their site here or in the title!

This is Where’s Waldo in the flesh. This is WALDO 2.0, an AI-based surveillance system that detects high speed objects using drones.

It was developed by Stephen Sturges, a developer who said, “I make a lot of AI.” This technology could be revolutionary in the surveillance sector. This tool reminds me of god’s eye in the Fast and Furious movies.

It is not available to the public yet, but you can apply for early access here. But according to Stephen, “WALDO v2 might be too powerful to release publicly…”

Tree Search Method

The 'Tree Search Method' is a way AI makes decisions based on a hierarchy of choices - imagine a tree with branching paths. Each 'branch' represents a potential action, and each 'node' or intersection in the tree denotes the state after taking a specific action.

AI uses tree search methods to explore different actions and their outcomes in a systematic manner. The goal is to find the most rewarding sequence of actions, from the root of the tree (representing the initial state) to the leaves (representing the final state or goal).

An example of where this comes into play is in board games like chess. The AI calculates all possible moves (branches), several steps ahead, before choosing the one that leads to the highest chance of winning.

Two common types of tree search methods are Depth-First Search (DFS), which explores as far down each path as possible before moving to the next one, and Breadth-First Search (BFS), which explores all immediate options before going deeper.
