Meet Geoffrey Hinton, often referred to as “The Godfather of AI." He made headlines this week by resigning from Google and now joins the critics who disapprove of the rapid progression of generative AI.

Hinton's work laid the foundation for AI systems like Chat GPT, but he now regrets his life's work due to the dangers of generative AI. This is serious. He is not alone in this thought process, as other leaders in technology have also voiced their concerns. Leaders like Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, and Andrew Yang have also expressed enough concerns to start a petition to halt AI for six months. You can read the petition here. (link)

He is mostly concerned about the immediate threat that the internet will be flooded with false photos, videos, and text, and the average person will “not be able to know what is true anymore."

The idea that this stuff could actually get smarter than people — a few people believed that,” he said. “But most people thought it was way off. And I thought it was way off. I thought it was 30 to 50 years or even longer away. Obviously, I no longer think that.”

A breakthrough AI tool created by a group of specialists from Imperial College London, The Institute of Cancer Research London, and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has shown great potential.

The tool is designed to detect the risk of cancer in lung nodules, and it has shown significant improvements. Dr. Benjamin Hunter has high hopes that this tool will improve early detection, making cancer treatment more successful. With cancer, every second counts, and the ability to detect disease faster will save thousands of lives.

This tool scored an (AUC) of 0.87, while the currently used “Brock” scored (AUC) of 0.67. In the (AUC) metric, a score of 1 indicates a perfect model, while a score of 0.5 indicates a model that is no better than random chance. So a score .20 points higher I a big achievement.

Everyone’s favorite robot is getting an upgrade! Amazon is working on a larger and more powerful large language model (LLM) to train Alexa.

The current model of Alexa has been trained on 20 billion parameters, and Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassey wants to improve on that number. He believes the new model will accelerate the company’s vision of being the world’s best personal digital assistant.

Do you have an Alexa? If you do, do you use it on a daily basis, or is it just decoration?
