🚨 Breaking AI News

The EU has been a stickler when it comes to AI. They just added to their list of AI no’s with their new petition, “Code of Practice on Online Disinformation.” They are urging signatories to require large tech companies to label all AI-generated images, kind of like an AI watermark.

The EU’s values and transparency commissioner, Vera Jourova, took to Twitter yesterday, saying, "When it comes to AI production, I don't see any right for the machines to have freedom of speech.” Ouch AI has feelings too…

This push for AI labeling is intended to happen sooner than the August 2023 deadline for the legally binding Digital Services Act (DSA), which requires large online platforms to label manipulated audio and imagery.

Neuroscientists at MIT have developed an AI model that predicts human emotions like joy, regret, and embarrassment. The AI was trained using scenarios from the British game show "Golden Balls," which is based on the prisoner’s dilemma game theory. It’s broken down into three steps:

  1. A module infers a person's preferences and beliefs

  2. A module that compares the actual outcome of a situation to what was expected

  3. And a module that predicts emotional responses based on the outcome and expectations

Emotional artificial intelligence is taking a big step forward with this, soon people will have AI girlfriends… Oh, wait, some people do. (link)

Daily Definition

Autoencoders

'Autoencoders' are a specific type of neural networks used in unsupervised machine learning, a branch of AI that deals with finding patterns in data without pre-existing labels. They are designed to learn efficient data codings in an unsupervised manner, primarily for the purpose of dimensionality reduction or data reconstruction.

Imagine you have a large dataset with many variables; 'autoencoders' can help reduce the number of variables while keeping the important information intact. Think of it like condensing a thick novel into a summary, while ensuring the main storyline is preserved.

The 'autoencoder' model has two primary components: an 'encoder' that compresses the input data, and a 'decoder' that reconstructs the input data from the compressed version. The aim is to create a compressed representation of the data that can be used to recreate the original input as closely as possible.
