Highlight of the Day

A look at what’s to come with Adobe Firefly

Adobe is gearing up to introduce its new generative AI tools within its Firefly platform, which will be available in beta later this year. The highlight is a text-to-video feature that lets users create video clips using simple text descriptions. Users can also adjust these clips through simulated camera controls like angles, motion, and shooting distance. Adobe also teased an image-to-video capability that could help generate additional footage or fill gaps during production. These tools will eventually be integrated into Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite.

The generated videos, while currently limited to five seconds in duration, showcase quality similar to that of OpenAI's Sora model. One significant edge Adobe has is its commitment to using “commercially safe” training data—derived from licensed, public domain, and Adobe Stock content—potentially reducing copyright concerns. Additionally, Adobe introduced a "Generative Extend" feature for its Premiere Pro software, allowing users to extend video footage, paralleling the Generative Expand tool for images in Photoshop.

Adobe's advancements in AI-driven video creation could reshape content production, offering creatives unprecedented tools to generate and manipulate media quickly. This not only highlights the increasing convergence of AI with creative work but also signals new possibilities for rapid, high-quality content generation.

Important Points:

  • Simple and high-quality text-to-video generation with camera control adjustments

  • Image-to-video tool for creating footage from still images

  • Videos are limited to five seconds, but the quality is competitive

  • Adobe emphasizes the “commercial safety” of its model’s training data

  • New “Generative Extend” feature for extending video footage
